Curing By Homeopathic Coincidence

Stupendous news! I’ve got a patient getting over a serious disease by coincidence! It’s the darnedest thing. I had my clients give a homeopathic remedy from their emergency kit to Harley, the moose of a Mastiff who couldn’t swallow and was dropping his food and losing weight and feeling puny for over a month.

And he’s getting so much better!

But, since we all know that homeopathic medicine is mere head games, the remedies being far too diluted to have any possible medicinal effect, Harley must have finally gotten lucky and had a fortunate coincidence that got him well.

Or, according to other skeptics’ explanations of how this crazy system of medicine could possibly work, Harley is in spontaneous remission!

I’ll let you decide, dear readers. I’m just tickled that he’s getting well, finally. But listen to his tale.

Appetite from Hell

Harley had been on my patient list since about March 1 of this year. We’d tried a couple of different remedies before his latest without much success. Oh, he got less anxious with one remedy, he stopped hawking and coughing with another. Lost his excessive ear wax production and loose stools. That’s nice.

Probably coincidence, though.

But then Harley got really weird with his appetite. Megan and I were really scratching our heads trying to figure out why. Harley used to love his raw bone-in chicken leg quarters. Now, he’d leave them, and run for the kibble if there was some out. He’d eat chicken breast, or hamburger.

“Ah ha! He’s got sore teeth!” I proffered, feeling like the real Dr. Sherlock Falconer.

Megan then reported back, “He just chomped through a big beef bone without a problem!”

Didn’t sound like sore teeth, then. Something else.

Then Harley quit eating his kibble and really started losing weight. But he’d beg for and eat Megan’s food as if he were hungry, and he’d still eat his old fave, bread with peanut butter. Then plain hamburger was a hit, and he ate that for several days. And then he’d have nothing to do with that, either.

What was going on with this gentle giant?

More Serious: Vomiting. Repeatedly.

I have a saying: “Any dog can vomit once.” Meaning, a symptom that comes once in a blue moon, we’ll not worry about that. Nor treat it with a remedy. But Harley was now repeatedly vomiting. The common thread was, it was during empty tummy time. Fasting aggravated his stomach, from the sounds of it.

A new analysis, a new remedy that sounded promising, and I asked for a two week follow up report. I got one in eight days instead.

Oh oh. In the veterinary business, no news is good news. Frequent news is usually the opposite.

Megan reported some things were better: dandruff had cleared up, twitching in his sleep disappeared, and jumpiness with touch lessened significantly.

But Harley was also vomiting frequently now. It was either odorless bile or it was brownish and smelled like diarrhea. (“Eating stool?” “No, he doesn’t do that.”)

Breakthrough Observation Unlocks the Case

More bad news, Harley’s glands under his jaw were big. Ping pong ball sized. He was steadily losing weight. And he was much more lethargic.

And finally, in a mixed update that was not especially shiny, Megan relayed the following nugget:

He also seems to struggle to keep food in his mouth, or he is consciously spitting it out. I am not sure. It is hard to tell with those jowls. He used to just scarf food down. Especially meat. Now he chews, and chews, and chews and then it ends up falling out of his mouth. He has done this with small kibble, biscuit crumbs, hamburger pieces, whole muscle pieces, and bread. Basically everything he has eaten. He tries a couple times to pick things up again, but then I think he gets frustrated and walks away.”

I asked Megan and Ryan to put on their sharpest observational skills and see if they thought Harley was having trouble swallowing. Dogs with tick borne disease, of which Harley (and his partner Ida, written about in this article) had a history, can show “tick paralysis” from some of these bad boy diseases.

At first, I was misunderstood. They thought I was asking if they thought Harley had a sore throat. But, before it was clarified that I was asking about throat paralysis, another gem came forth to support my current theory:

He definitely drinks a lot of water, however his method has changed. Growing up he always would dunk his whole muzzle into the bowl and chomp at the water. Since we got Ida, he learned how to lap it up with his tongue. However since he has been sick (~the last month) he has gone back to chomping the water.

We Need a Coincidence, Stat!

I rushed back to his homeopathic analysis and added in the symptom that sure sounded like difficulty swallowing. Here he was, dropping food after a lot of attempts and chomping strangely at his water.

I had a remedy in mind for him, called lachesis, made from a highly poisonous and aggressive snake’s venom, proven in homeopathy by one of the greats, Constantine Hering, MD, who made its first dilution in 1828. Lachesis is well known for helping disorders of the throat, among other things.

Harley swallow analysis

In my analysis, it came up as #3, behind belladonna and mercurius. The latter had been tried earlier with some success, and belladonna didn’t strike me as fitting his case, so I telegraphed, sorry, emailed hurriedly back to Megan:

Get lachesis 30C from your kit. Stop. Dilute it in water, and give a dose twice a day for two days. Stop. Report back in four days. Stop.”

And today comes the news of The Amazing Coincidence:

  • The day of his first dose, he slept way more than usual, but by 6 pm, “he began to perk up. He followed Megan around, his eyes seemed brighter.”
  • By 6:30 pm, Harley “ran out barking to greet Ryan. He brought Ryan a bone and then chewed that bone for 25 minutes.”
  • Two days ago, he started his third dose, and “continued to show an increase in energy. He again ate a few small pieces of ham. He also started to lap his water at the dish, instead of chomping at it.”
  • Yesterday, Harley polished off two whole raw chicken breasts, “the first real thing he’s eaten since Tuesday.” (I’m writing this on Saturday). “Still not swallowing like he normally would, but an improvement.”
  • Yesterday evening, “Harley had a toy for Ryan when he came home. He played a small amount with Idaho, first time in weeks that he has done that.”

Aren’t coincidences wonderful?? This dog is finally getting well! Love those magic words, “First time in weeks!”

Harley lost a bit of ground while off the remedy for a couple of days, so I restarted him today. We want this coincidence to continue! If this is what it takes to get him into “spontaneous remission,” by God, we’ll continue it!

And, I sent out two doses of higher potency lachesis that will likely follow his 30C when the time comes.

Higher Potency = Even More Diluted??Lachesis pellets, vials

Oh yes, true, the higher the potency, the more diluted the remedy and the more powerful its medicinal effect. Yeah, the skeptics really choke on that, but we homeopathic veterinarians do what we have to to keep these coincidences happening.

You know that 30C remedy, like you see in the store or most kits? It’s diluted 1:100, thirty times. So, if you gave lachesis 30C to a chemist and told him to tell you, by analysis, what was in it, he’d say, “Lactose and sucrose. Nothing else.”

“No snake venom?” you ask.

“No sir, not a whit.”

I’m sending Harley lachesis 1M. That’s a 1000C potency (a 1:100 dilution, repeated a thousand times, getting more and more dilute at each step).  I’m also sending a 10M, which may follow the 1M, and it’s the same 1:100 dilution, but repeated ten thousand times!

Cured By, Erm, Coincidence

So, when we cure an animal of a serious chronic disease, with our third or fourth try at a remedy, and he didn’t respond that well to the first three, but really took off for cure with that fourth one?

That’s coincidence, according to the skeptics. Because in their minds, it’s impossible that something so diluted could cure anything. If someone is getting well after a remedy, it’s not due to the remedy. Nah. Impossible. It’s either:

  1. Placebo response (which last time I checked, animals didn’t have), or
  2. Spontaneous remission (they just finally gave up being sick. It happens all the time, right?), or
  3. Coincidence (two things happen to show up together, but there’s no cause and effect relationship)

I love it when small minds try to explain things they can’t grok and try to make up reasons that keep their paradigms intact.

Homeopathy. Medicine of coincidence, spontaneous remission, and placebo effect. Sterling explanation, except for the fact that animals (and small children) just respond brilliantly to the proper remedy that fits their state of illness.

I’ll keep practicing this amazing art and science called homeopathy. Coincidences like Harley’s are too precious to give it up. Funny, though, how those coincidences only come after certain remedies are given, and not others. But don’t worry your pretty little head about that, Sweetheart. Come, let’s watch TV.

If you’d like to get a veterinary homeopath on board to help your animals have nice coincidences like this, see the AVH list on my Resources page.

Seen any homeopathic coincidences? Tell us about them in the comments. Especially the ones in your animals or small kids. Because you know they aren’t making this stuff up.

I found this page by accident using the keywords “snake venom”. Very interesting! Just wondering how this dog is doing and if the snake venom was the last remedy needed?

In regards to your email tidbits about homeopathic remedys.
I have never out essential oils ON my dog – however I have essential oils burning almost daily. Usually light, 3-5 drops in a diffuser of water. I prefer lemongrass, orange peel, lavendar or peppermint.
I dont use any chemicals in my home – I have been using the wonderful company Branch Basics – but I LOVE coming home and the house having a faint, lovely, natural smell.
Is this bad for the dogs health? Or affecting their homeopathic treatment?

I had a cockatiel that was frothing at the mouth and had dirty marks down its chest from dribble. It was looking decidedly unwell and the other cockatiels in the cage were all huddled together in the corner as far away from the ill bird as they could get. I removed it from the cage to save the other birds from distress and looked up a bird book I had which suggested it could be egg-bound (I still don’t know if this was the problem) and suggested some complicated procedures that could be tried by a vet as well as some homeopathic remedies. Being a homeopathic student at the time I only had one of the remedies suggested which was sepia (interesting as the birds loved their cuttlefish!) I didn’t know how I was going to get the remedy into the bird as they don’t usually let me handle them but she sat calmly in my hand and literally sucked the remedy from the dropper. In a short time she started walking around (from previously being almost catatonic). After another dose she was knocking at the glass door looking out onto the birdcage. Within a couple of hours (and after being cleaned up – again co-operatively) she was back on the perch with her mates completely recovered. I was as amazed as they all probably were. My son, who had seen the bird when ill, at first wouldn’t believe me when I showed her to him back on her perch!

Very neat, Susan. Works in all species, if we can get a sense of how to describe “abnormal” and match that to a remedy that could, given in excess, cause abnormal like this in the patient. A few tiny doses spurs the patient to throw off her own disease.
      By coincidence of course.

My 2 year old golden retriever had “allergic follicular conjunctivitis” in both eyes with her 3rd eyelids extremely swollen and red…..swollen almost up to her pupils. After 3 visits to conventional vet, 3 visits to 2 different vet opthalmologists (one of whom said she had “cancer of the 3rd eyelid”), 1 visit to an integrated vet who gave her a dose of sulphur, nothing was helping her. All of them said she would have to be given prednisone, orally. I did not give her any pred. No way. Finally, in one of my homeopathic books I saw a remedy which purported to help swellings of the 3rd eyelid and in some cases of 3rd eyelid tumors (which she did not have), could prevent removal of eyelid. That remedy is Staphysagria. I began giving her the remedy 3x/day and did not stop until she improved. By day ten her eyes were normal. Still have to find her allergy(s), but after 3 months of extreme anxiety on my part and poor Trixie going to vet after vet (even a surgical biopsy of one of her 3rd eyelids), she is well. Thanks to homeopathy. Thanks to God.

Wow, nice work, Linda! I love your persistence and pluck to finally get your dog well. And, this is going to Evernote for future reference, as I’d not been aware of staph’s affinity for lid problems. But there it is, in the materia medica: Recurrent styes. And, “Stye doesn’t suppurate and break, but remains a hard nodule.”
Thanks for sharing this. I (with the help of Evernote) will remember this when/if I’m ever presented with a chronic lid issue like this in a patient.
p.s. avoiding prednisone: a huge bonus. You knew better. Right on.

Another great article! With your “Tasty Tips” series in mind, is the reaction that Harley had of sleeping soundly after being given the first dose of remedy a typical response when a correct remedy is given? I’ve heard someone say this but wasn’t sure if it’s true. When I read this in Harley’s reaction it brought it to mind. We are treating our Whippet for congestive heart failure and I’m always looking for a positive indicator and some hope. We’ve tried 6 or 8 different remedies so far, some with an initial positive response but not lasting. We ended up having to put her on drugs in hope to buy us a little more time. The last remedy used was Cactus Grandiflora. She had a good response to this and did sleep soundly after the dose. It increased, what has been a poor appetite, with the first dose of 30c. Several weeks later a second dose of the 30c has brought her to full appetite but xrays have showed more enlargement of the heart. We have now started her on an LM1 potency. After her first dose of it yesterday she slept soundly for about and hour. I’m hoping this is a good sign.

Gay, you win the gold star! Yes, that’s what I was referring to in Vital Animal News in the tip about homeopathic aggravation. Not every case will show this, but when you see it, and it’s followed by improvement, it’s a great sign. It’s interpreted as, “Need rest. Much internal work being done!” followed by, “Now I feel better. What a relief.”
Best of luck with your Whippet. I like the sounds of what you’re seeing, even with the apparent size increase on radiographs. Have to stay focused on the bigger picture, not just what lab work shows. “How’s the whole patient?” is the key question to keep evaluating.

      • Gay on July 27, 2015 at 1:38 am

I will wear my gold star proudly, lol! Thank you for the encouragement with our Whippet. I so want her to be “all better” but I know I have to focus on any steps forward, no matter how small. Without homeopathy I know there wouldn’t be any even small steps.

I cured my dog’s glaucoma with phosphorus. There are many homeopathics for glaucoma. The homeopathic vet gave him Belladona but it did not work. She saw the dog wagging his tail and friendly and thought he was a Belladona. However, my dog never drank water and Belladona drinks water. She never ask details about the dog’s behavior. After high Belladona doze of 1M his glaucoma didn’t improve but he started drinking a lot of water.
I believe the Phosphorus worked for him because his glaucoma was caused by regular vet who put steroid in his eye for inflammation (allergy bad choice of doctors I would never do). Phosphorus I read, balances the electrolytes. It was basically a guess from a lot of reading as I am not a homeopath. I used 3 higher and higher doses per the advise in a U.K. homeopath vet. It worked the first day I could see his pupil diminish in size after 15 minutes. It was not my imagination.
The glaucoma was only in his left eye, which is, I read, due to hormones. Anyway, I wanted to share and encourage other people to use homeopathy for their pets and make sure their homeopath is willing to spend the time and ask questions. I also cured the incurable, my own osteomyelithis encouraged by this website and by reading good homeopathic literature. I don’t have any bone pieces falling into a skin bubble on my sole any longer and the bubble is almost gone, and there is no pain at all. I used Calcarea Fluorica and some other things I forgot. No repeated bone surgeries, no bone scraping, no hospital stays with antib.resistant strep infections, and NO BLUE HANDICAP PLAQUE for me.
Thank you for your great work and for spending the time to write and inform other people.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on July 23, 2015 at 9:46 pm

You’ve had some amazing success there, Elena, but I’d urge readers to not think too simply about treating chronic disease like glaucoma based on wagging tails or thirst. A serious homeopath who works with the chronic cases needs at least an hour, often more like 1.5 hours to do a thorough intake interview and exam to get started.
Acute illness, yes, you need very little training and questions. That’s where I’d urge everyone to dip their toes in. Injury, sudden diarrhea, vomiting, parvo even, I cover in my course with Dogs Naturally and you can both save lives and a lot of money with knowledge and a remedy kit. Details over on the right column.
Thanks for sharing your personal experiences with us, Elena. I applaud your pluck.

  7. Carly Stevens on July 22, 2015 at 8:13 am

Some 7 or so years ago my dear friend Tom began to suffer from old age ailments. He could no longer jump onto or down from the shed roof. Over time this became worse and eventually getting on and off of chairs was too much for him. The vet suggested steroids. (In the UK we must, by law, take an animal to a vet before they can be treated by any alternative practitioner, otherwise the practitioner is at risk of malpractice.) I told the vet we would try homeopathy and report back. The homeopath gave Cat Milk (I forget the latin name!) and lo and behold Tom was back up on the shed roof, all old age stiffness and pain vanished.
My other cat at that time suffered repeated runny eyes and had some scratch caused recurring eye injury. She also had tooth and gum problems. Again steroids were offered. This one I worked out myself from my homeopathic books (though I’m by no means an expert): merc sol. It wasn’t a permanent solution and another dose of merc sol would be required at maybe 6 month intervals. I often wondered if she fitted the whole merc sol picture and had an inner desire to ‘tweak the noses of passers by’.
In both cases the vets were a little sceptical but accepted that somehow we were managing the symptoms. They weren’t interested in more info though. Both cats were saved form the long term effects of steroids and my bank account benefited!

    • Will Falconer, DVM on July 22, 2015 at 9:52 am

Nice work, Carly. I’m not sure if I was the only one, but at first read, I pictured Tom as a human friend, and thought it odd that he’d be jumping on and off the shed roof!
Also, what horrible constraints your poor vet homeopaths must go through! The clients need a good dose of inner fortitude to turn down the drugs offered, in most cases.
But, as you demonstrated, it’s worth following the Natural Path and you and your cats clearly came out ahead, whether the vets are on board or not!

Wonderful article! My 2 year old Papillon has been recieving homeopathic treatment for the last 5 months. I prolonged it too long (symptoms started at 11 months). But I spent almost a year saving money for over a years worth of treatment. I have been blogging all her responses to the treatment for my friends who believe it’s a placebo effect as well.
She had severe allergies (chicken, eggs, turkey, glycerin, and any grains the animals she ate were fed). She itched her face, ears and mouth bloody even when not in contact with her allergens.
We eliminated all chemicals in our house, she had never recieved any flea/tick meds anyways, and only had recieved one dose of heartgard at 8 weeks from her breeder… But she did have all her puppy shots (and contracted Parvo from them). No more vaccines ever for her now!
Well, 5 months into treatment (about 4 remedies) and she is doing wonderful. My homeopath is so pleased with how well she has been responding and so quickly! The last visit seems to have really helped (along with Oregano Capsules for candida overgrowth). She is also been getting Transfer Factor to boost that immune system of hers 🙂
I firmly believe she is almost healed, and kick myself for not getting her treatment sooner!

    • Will Falconer, DVM on July 22, 2015 at 9:57 am

Nice to hear, Destiny. Even with a late start, this little one is beating anything conventional medicine would offer for her disease, and without side effects. That’s success, and better late than never! Way to go.

  9. Sally Lowe on July 21, 2015 at 8:22 am

Wow I loved your article and the replies. Anne’s comment cracked me up. My most recent coincidence was just this weekend. I have 2 cats. 1 “normal” and the other a Bengal whom I desperately love but he drives me crazy and constantly breaks my heart. Thursday night I carried him into his bed thinking he was a bit sore from Wednesday’s fracas with his “normal” companion. But Friday morning he wouldn’t get up and proved to be limping severely and obviously feeling very miserable. While discussing treatment, on the mobile, with my valued homeopath Madeleine (commented above) I discovered that he had fallen, the day before, 6 feet through a rotten platform (yes my fault) onto another narrow platform with no hope of saving himself in any way. TOTAL INSTANT PANIC. Now its looking like minimum dislocated shoulder, possibly cracked bones and other injury. X-rays and massive vet bills loomed in my head. However, as calmly suggested, I gave him Arnica 1M which he literally lapped from the syringe, then 2 more doses an hour apart, then, 10 minutes after the 4th dose 2 hours later again, he began to wash himself. Phew! His 6th dose in 12 hours was when I carried him to bed. Next morning, before carrying him outside, I started him on Ruta grav 200, which again he eagerly lapped. He then promptly clambered back up onto the frame he had fallen from and howled because he was unable to,jump down. I put him back in the laundry for the day with a 2nd bowl of water with the Ruta. That night before bed, I had a thought; he’s very sensitive and would have had a terrible fright, so I offered him an Aconite pillule which he licked off my hand.
Sunday morning (and I’m still thinking Monday, vet, x-ray, unless markedly-better-looking shoulder) he charged out when I opened the laundry door, still limping but so obviously chirpier I knew the vet wouldn’t see us. Occasional welcomed doses of Ruta 200 continued and by last night, Monday, he was showing off and demonstrating his climbing prowess, still a little sore but that’s not going to hold him back NO WAY. Today he is completely himself, howling and demanding things to chase, so I reckon a 5 day full recovery is exceptionally coincidental.

Great laughter on this, too, Sally! Thanks for sharing his story with us. Love the restoration of “full of himself,” not your words but my intuition about who he is.
A sweet coincidence. Or spontaneous remission. With a lot of help from his homeopathic mama!

  10. Lizzy Meyer on July 20, 2015 at 10:24 am

    Dr. Falconer,
What a well-written, humorous, and attention-grabbing blog you’ve just written. I will say, I went through a phase of “homeopathy doesn’t work!” when I did not know how to use it. That was back in around 2005-6.
Back then, my scientific mind that earned a handsome Biology degree and working at vet clinics since I was 12 years old resulted in a person who could see things in a pretty black/white, evidence-based way. I did not believe in the mystique and magic of homeopathy. Where was the evidence? Proof?
As it turns out, I’ve got lots and lots of personal animals who have given me all the evidence I can stomach. I am beginning to write their stories to share with others, as it’s too powerful not too!
I will not forget the cases that made me a believer. Scientists are a curious lot and the thirst to learn what this mysterious way of helping animals got the best of me. I started reading about homeopathy. I took some human classes over a conference call with a homeopath. I had a basic emergency kit, being the ever-prepared type when it came to animals in my care.
Here are the animals that I am eternally grateful for being in my path. They are my teachers and they’ve made me a believer:
1.) Mac, a horse who had been colicking for days out in the wilderness of CO, made a total turnaround, despite vet prescribed emergency medications, IV fluids, herbs, and energy medicine. Within minutes of a dose of Arsenicum, he got up, began drinking water and passing manure. Recovery was quick. As I was diluting his dose, I remember saying I really don’t believe in this stuff. If it didn’t work, I’d have euthanize the horse, myself.
2.) My dog, Vern, a Basset/St. Bernard bloated in an ice storm. The roads were impossible to drive on. Vern was in acute shock, a greatly distended abdomen, and dying at my feet. His gums were purple, he was barely breathing, and he was very cold. I picked up the 90 pound dog and put him in my car with the heat on and instantly gave him a dose of Carbo veg. A minute went by. Vern vomited a foul black material, his abdomen decompressed, and he was standing, with normal vitals. I maintained him with Veratrum alb. as needed, for the next few days as his symptoms indicated. The local holistic vet said there was nothing she could do, to just keep going with whatever I was doing. She couldn’t believe he was alive.
3.) A stray lab pup (about 12 weeks old) wandered into the horse pasture, got struck in the head and was unconscious, unresponsive, dying. A dose of Rescue Remedy and Arnica and he recovered without incident.
4.) A miniature mule was kicked in the head, just behind his eye by a draft-cross horse. He too, was dying, in shock, and unresponsive. He did not even blink when I touched his cornea. Arnica, energy work, Rescue Remedy along with his invisible will to survive saved him.
5.) My goat, Clementine, was run over by a truck. Her head chest got the brunt of the trauma. She went into shock immediately and I gave her Aconite and Arnica both in high potencies. If she didn’t respond, that’d be my cue to put her down. Less than 5 minutes later, she reversed her shock! She recovered beautifully. Other remedies helped her severely dislocated jaw to go back to normal and her broken ribs to heal without event.
6.) Turtle hit by car found on road. Shell was open, turtle was limp and gray, barely alive. I dumped pellets of Phosphorous, Arnica, and later Hypericum in his shell. He lived and did fabulously well. Turns out, his lungs were exposed! There was no infection, healing came quickly thanks to a vet who donated a shell repair. That vet did a bit of head-turning.
I’ve got oodles of stories to tell about homeopathic successes, but I will stop here.
I have seen many skeptics when it comes to “voodoo” homeopathy. I’ve had the great pleasure of using the remedies when there was no vet in range, emergencies, and out in the wilderness with no services. My own animals have benefited countless times. There’s no modality I believe in more than homeopathy.
Thanks for doing the good work and for sharing this! I guess I have been blessed to see LOTS of coincidences with this “medicine”? It’s pretty reliable for such a mysterious and lucky synchronistic event, eh?
    Lizzy

    • Will Falconer, DVM on July 20, 2015 at 12:32 pm

Wow, Lizzy, great cases! Reliably coincidental healing when the remedy is right!

  11. Maria Segreto on July 20, 2015 at 7:53 am

Always an inspiration Dr. Falconer. I practice homeopathy at home with my dogs and husband, and it never stops to amaze me how the right “medicine” works. Sometimes I had to ask what some people call “stupid questions” to find the “right one” and when I do it’s like a miracle . I share this kind of information so the skeptics I know give this wonderful coincidence called “homeopathy” a chance, they may not, but I will never stop sharing.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on July 20, 2015 at 8:29 am

Right on, Maria. You’ve seen it, too then: the miracle coincidence only happens when you’ve gotten the remedy chosen properly. It follows after the right remedy, not after one that’s off the mark.
And the animals aren’t making this stuff up.

  12. Darci Petercheff on July 20, 2015 at 6:52 am

Homeopathy has quite literally saved my dogs life. She’s a bit of an interesting case. I worked with the finest, one of the most respected Integrative Vet clinic in the country to diagnose her atypical Cushings about two years ago. She responded beautifully to all glandular therapies. I would check her blood every 6 months and I always questioned her kidney values. She is totally raw fed and I was told (as I already knew) that raw fed dogs kidney values run higher. It didn’t explain why we were always adding supplements rather than taking away, however. I even sought second and third opinions from again, the finest in the industry; they all said no kidney disease but my gut knew better. We added for thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, pineal, all things endocrine. All the while she was great; this was just what the bloodwork showed. About 4 months ago she just crashed. We pulled blood and she was in end stage renal failure with off the chart calcium. We went on a cancer hunt, worked with internist and endocrinologists and nothing. This was on Easter Sunday. I put her on fluids for a total of 6 days; 3 days per leg and then began a homeopathic regimen. Mind you, at this point she was not eating and being syringe fed; some vomiting as well but not much. I have her second dose and she did a complete 360! She had sailed upward ever since! It’s been 4 months and her blood work is finally catching up to her clinical self, being wonderful, happy and healthy! Her BUN and Creatinine may never fall back into normal range but the body can adjust to the higher levels. Calcium, phos all back to normal. RBC and hematocrit were low two weeks ago; began ferrum met liquid dose and they are now normal. We just began thios in the event that eliminating some of that sclerotic scar tissue can help improve the bun and creatinine. Time will tell but one thing is for certain, homeopathy saved my dogs life. She will turn a young 11 in October and we fully plan to celebrate big time on Easter when we hit that one year mark! She is an ESS and my first love. Her vital force is beyond strong❤️

How cool is that, Darci? Turn arounds like that really make you sit up and take notice, don’t they?
Thanks for sharing that inspiring story with us.

Your article made me smile – having trained as a homeopath I still get clients who believe it’s placebo. I have learnt to smile and tell them ‘I wish it was – then I would not have had to study full-time for three years and pay off student loans”. Even more remarkable is the thought that people are healed merely by sitting with me in my office for an hour 🙂

    • Will Falconer, DVM on July 20, 2015 at 5:37 am

Funny thing about the placebo: it only works when your study and hard work find the proper remedy!

      • esther on August 10, 2015 at 7:14 pm

yes indeed the placebo only works when prescribed by a good homeopath that had selected the right remedy. That is the key

Again awesome article! And so happy for Harley too! Keep up your great work Dr. Falconer. We all love you and all the help you give these animals. It isn’t coincidence. Homeopathy works! It’s better than the crap the Pharmies dish out that destroy not only our pets bodies, but humans too. I’ll stick with learning with you too and studying on my own until I can afford the certification program available or until I can afford to buy your kit & study course 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to share that story of Harley. Another thing skeptics say is that the condition or malady would have naturally “cured on its own”.
I’ll be adding to my blog in the Pets / Animals section for others to enjoy. I have also sent out tweets.
Keep up your good work helping the animal kingdom and sharing, even with the skeptics.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on July 20, 2015 at 5:39 am

Thanks Sandra. I appreciate you spreading the word!
OH! A big p.s. for everyone! Sandra brought a reader’s poll to my attention last night, where you can vote on whether you think homeopathy should be recommended by doctors. Here’s the link, best opened in Firefox or Chrome. My Safari browser choked on it. http://www.bmj.com/theBMJ#poll-widget

  16. phyllis on July 19, 2015 at 9:29 pm

*GASP* it HAS to be a coincidence! =)

    • Will Falconer, DVM on July 20, 2015 at 5:41 am

Indeed. What else could explain it? My other fave is, “Well, most sickness goes away on its own, anyway.” Yeah, especially the kind that prevents intake of food and results in starvation. Death kind of makes sickness go away, I guess. Not an outcome I’d wish for, but it’s got history.

I love your sense of humour! It’s all too easy to become dispirited and frustrated. So much better to be light-hearted.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on July 20, 2015 at 5:44 am

I’m glad, Madeleine. Yes, I rarely take on the skeptics confrontationally. It’s a dark pit of quicksand. Better to shine some light on the fallacies they hold dear, I think.

Love this. So great to hear there are solutions. Trying to help my old dog who has just recently developed lots of old age issues. Trying to learn what can help for hind end weakness, frequent tripping and falling, getting very picky about food and will only eat freshly cooked turkey burgers.
Has a huge half basketball size fatoma on the back that won’t stop growing.
No vaccinations for 10 years. But we made many mistakes in the beginning from horrible kibble, to spaying too young, and too many chemicals. We have slowly been trying to find natural replacements for everything thru the years.
Terrible vaccine side effects that we didn’t realize that the seizures as a puppy were caused by all the puppy vaccines. Hypothyroidism and strong dog aggression after the vaccines and it has been tough to deal with thru the years but kept learning about the dangers not only to pets but to people too.
The scary part that big pharma controls what we hear on the media.
Learning about the rabies vaccination scam for profit not for protection.
Learning about the statin high cholesterol scam that killed a family member but my family just doesn’t get it yet, they still want to believe that the mainstream media is real news. But all mainstream media news is junk food for the brain.
Your newsletter is a reminder that there is honest medicine out there that has worked for many.
We wish there were holistic doctors like you in every town and city that could help us find our way to health for both the animals and the humans.
Thanks again, we always look forward to your newsletter. I signed up for several pet health newsletters and yours is by far the one I most recommend to other pet lovers to help the find the natural path to health. The honest path to health.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on July 20, 2015 at 5:35 am

Thanks for your kind words, b. I’m glad you’re making your way, and if you need help with your old dog, see my Resources page for the AVH list there. Many of us provide distance consulting, as there are just not enough veterinary homeopaths to go around. Yet. I hope that’s going to change fast.
Had a first hand media experience remind me of the junk nature of the mainstream. Next time, I’ll just blog about and hope enough people find it.

I am a huge believer in homeopathy, good nutrition, for animals and humans.
I even have flower essencescand oils and tinctures…my 11 year old bischon has issues with allergy. Even ALL vaccinations. Has been on raw for some time and would love to give him raw chickens but he begins to itch.
I wonder If there is a salt or pellet for him to try. I’ll keep searching.
Thank you for the articles and for sharing.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on July 20, 2015 at 5:30 am

      Hi Barb,
An itchy allergic to chicken (or fleas or grass or, or, or…) dog can be cured of his allergic state. It won’t likely be by one remedy, though. This is a chronic state and it most often takes professional help to unravel and cure it.
See my Resources page for the AVH list, and you’ll be on your way to finding a homeopathic vet to get you to your goal.

      • Rudy on December 12, 2020 at 9:27 pm

“It won’t likely be by one remedy, though.”

Though it may take more than one remedy, should only one remedy be used at a time? Is combing/mixing remedies a “no-no”? Thanks.

        • Will Falconer, DVM on December 13, 2020 at 12:31 am

Bingo! Good catch, Rudy. Indeed, the best results will come from carefully choosing a single remedy, giving it, assessing the patient’s response, and choosing the next step based entirely on the patient.
That could be waiting longer, giving a second dose of the remedy, or changing remedies, all based on how the patient’s symptoms “talk to” the prescriber.

  20. Karin on July 19, 2015 at 6:48 pm

Love your articles! Thankfully my family is one of the most fortunate families around because we’ve been getting better by “coincidence” for about 25 years now ever since I studied homeopathy when I was training as a midwife. Everything from colds, flus, strep throat, bronchitis, pneumonia, rashes, stomach illnesses, and minor and even some major injuries (torn Achilles tendon!) and more.
I think one of the best “small child/baby” coincidences was croup. So scary for parents, even us parents who think we can deal with it…. when your child can’t breathe, you panic. But once we found the right remedy combination that worked every time, when croup came around every winter for a few years, we kicked it out immediately.
As for our animals, I think the best coincidences we had with homeopathy had to do with the recovery of our dogs from neutering. They bounced back so fast it was an amazing coincidence! Also once had a major stye in one of my dogs eyes coincidentally resolve very quickly.
    Keep up the great work!
    ~Karin
P.S. Raw cow’s milk is a favorite in this family too. The dog gets some now and then too when we can spare it.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on July 20, 2015 at 5:28 am

Nice, Karin! Of course, as there are no double blind studies on what you’ve written, we’ll, uh, just have to assume coincidence here.
Keep on keeping on. Kids, animals, and everyone in between respond well to the well chosen remedy.
