#25 Susan Thixton: Your pet food advocate

My guest this week is your best friend if you buy commercial pet food of any kind. Susan Thixton came to her calling as crusader for quality pet food many years ago when her vet told her her healthy dog died of bone cancer from a commonly used pet food preservative.

She’s learned so much since then and shares it regularly with interested consumers with pets to feed via her website and newsletter. And believe me when I tell you, the world of Big Pet Food is “buyer beware!”

Her work has included:
— tracking aflatoxin in corn to poisoned pets (110 have died recently from this liver toxic mold)
— using FOIA documents to get at hidden loopholes in the regulation of pet food quality
— attending the AAFCO meetings as a voice for you, the pet food consumer
— publishing rankings of pet food from best to worst

This woman is on a mission! Your pets need her to stay safe in the jungle that is commercial pet food.

You won’t want to miss Susan’s inspiring and cautionary message in this episode.

Next week: Welcoming Julie Anne Lee, who shares her amazing journey to becoming a homeopath for animals. While that’s amazing enough, we’re talking leaky gut and microbiome, where she’s got a researched based opinion that runs counter to what much of the rest of the world recommends.

Twenty-five years ago, after learning the appalling truth about the commercial pet food industry, I began cooking for my animal-family members. Susan Thixton’s book was one of my learning tools.

I have concluded that according to AFFCO’s regulations, a manufacturer could mix vitamins and minerals in sawdust, and it would meet AFFCO’S standards. And in regards to animals, FDA stands for Federal Department of A-holes, and the TAX PAYERS foot the bill.

My employers bull dog started bleeding from the rectum where it shows she developed a small tumor. Their Vet immediately took ‘Bella’ off her Apoquel. The wife wanted to sue but I had to show her it states in the Apoquel drug insert, can cause tumors. Bella (the dog) goes in for $500 dollar cash-only surgery early March and once that’s finished, will CANINE Vital Animal Detox (30 scoops in each bottle) help in Bella’s recovery? I don’t understand why Parents drug their children, drug themselves or why they drug their drugs. What I really don’t understand is how most blindly trust any man in a White Coat when that can & often is very dangerous if not deadly.

Thank you so much for your & Susan’s websites. What a treasure trove of information for us beginners.

Detox, yes but even more important: our Canine Immune Complete. Don’t think for a moment that cutting a tumor out has cured cancer.

The two complement each other well, but cancer is an immune system failure. It’s “asleep at the switch,” allowing cancer cells to escape unnoticed. They arise every day in all of us, so it makes most sense to keep the immune system “educated,” which is what our CIC does best.

Thank you Dr Will for hosting Susan Thixton. It is only through education that we can help our pets live a full and healthy life. We must be their advocates. You and Susan have given wonderful “talking points” to use for our own benefit as well as to share with other pet owners.
