Years of experience in homeopathic preventative medicine (aka “homeoprophylaxis”) has taught me that Kennel Cough, a somewhat complicated infectious disease of dogs, is highly preventable by means of a homeopathic nosode.

While this disease is far from fatal or serious, it’s often a 3-week long harsh honking cough, so it makes your dog pretty darned uncomfortable.

It’s also highly contagious, especially in situations where dogs congregate, so these situations are prime examples of where to find it spreading:

• Kennels
• Dog shows
• Training grounds
• Play dates, canine style
• Working dog gatherings, example “nose work,” search and rescue, agility trials, etc.

In short, anywhere dogs are likely to congregate, and worse if they are confined.

So, its name is very appropriate: kenneling is a prime ground for this disease to spread.

Complicated? Why Not Just Vaccinate?

Kennel cough is often blamed on a bacteria called Bordetella bronchiseptica, and while it’s still the main cause, the currently accepted name speaks to it being more than a single pathogen.

The AVMA calls the disease CIRDC or Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex.

For simplicity, most use the old term, kennel cough, often abbreviated KC.

Other agents that have long been implicated in KC besides Bordetella include:

• Canine parainfluenza virus
• Canine adenovirus 2
• Others, including canine influenza, canine respiratory coronavirus, canine herpesvirus, mycoplasma and strep.

While there’s long been a vaccine available, ask anyone who’s used it, and you’ll likely hear reports of its failure to protect dogs adequately.

As that weakness is well known, your vet may suggest vaccinating multiple times per year if your dog is in canine social settings regularly.

You can do better with homeopathy.

Homeopathic Experience in Kennels

During my practice days in Austin, Texas, I supplied a kennel cough nosode to a few different kennels who asked for it.

The fact that they reordered it when ever they ran out (and always had positive reports on its efficacy) helped me to verify that it was a working, safe alternative to conventional vaccines on offer from conventional veterinarians.

Kennels that seemed to get case after case, especially in each new dog who came to board (embarrassing) were able to live free of the disease when they started employing the nosode.

Research Confirms Nosode Efficacy

In my Nosodes, Tautodes & Titers course, I cite research by UK veterinarian Mr. Chris Day (RIP) who I first learned of nosodes from back in the early 90’s.

He tested several different nosode uses, and the one with the most verifiable positive results in trials was the kennel cough nosode.

Various colleagues have similar stories, though unpublished, of kennels that had been earlier plagued with KC beating it handily once the nosodes were started.

Wait. What’s a Nosode?

While we go into more detail in the Nosodes, Tautodes & Titers course, in short, a nosode is a homeopathically prepared medicine whose starting material is the discharge from a patient sick with the disease.

In this case, sputum or a simple nose swab would get the starting material, which is then sent to a homeopathic pharmacy.

At the pharmacy, the nosode is developed like any other remedy, with repeated rounds of dilution and agitation between each dilution step. That agitation of the vial is also called succussion.

We offer the 30C potency of the KC Nosode, which means the original discharge has been diluted 1 part to 99 parts of water for a total of thirty times. At the point of 18 dilutions/succussions, nothing physical is left in the vial, but the energetic imprint of the disease remains and is, in fact, heightened with each step of the process.

As such, nosodes are very safe for all animals to take and will never cause disease.
