COVID-19: Remedy of the Pandemic

Inspired by Comedy

COVID-19: pretty sure I had it. It’s why I’ve been self-isolating for the past two weeks.

Now, it’s not everyday that a comedy special can spur you to make a video that might just help thousands suffering from an epidemic, but today that’s exactly what happened.

Oh, and I’m fine, thanks to a very common homeopathic remedy. But it was a comedy special that made me jump up and make a video for you to learn about that.

I laughed. And then I thought.

I was hunting around YouTube and came upon Michael Jr.’s free comedy special there called More Than Funny. Highly recommend it, both for laughter (very good medicine for our Time of Pandemic!) and some inspiration about what’s possible when we ask the right questions.

So, within minutes of that ending, I decided you would likely benefit from what I’ve recently learned about the likely remedy of this epidemic called COVID-19.

Although I can’t seem to get tested where I’m living now, I’m pretty sure I had this virus myself, and I share that story in the hopes it’ll help many others either avoid it or get well really quickly like I did two weeks ago.

This video explains it all:

Non-YouTube link (bc YT censored it!)

After you’ve seen the video, please leave a comment below, especially if you’ve experienced this illness and the remedy Nux vomica in relation to it.

And do me a favor, and SHARE this so we can help more people both prevent the illness and treat it if need be.

Hello Dr Falconer, thank you for all the information you give us. I wanted to look at the video through the link you give above, but this video has been removed!!! Is it possible to see this video somewhere else? Many thanks

Ah, I’d forgotten about YT censoring me, good catch. Refresh the page (or restart your browser if need be) and you’ll see a new link now that will take you to Loom, where the video was made and now lives.

Thank you for this! I wish I’d seen it earlier…while I got through COVID fairly well, I sure would have loved to know about Nux. Question: Do you still think it’s the best remedy with the new and/or evolving variants? Or do you think the virus and symptoms have shifted enough to warrant a different remedy. Thanks 🙂

    • Will Falconer, DVM on August 23, 2022 at 12:08 am

Apparently so, and Dr. Pitcairn says that’s common for a genus epidemicus remedy to work even amid the mutations that are part of it. My experience with it and that of my acquaintance in late stage fatigue post-Covid recently were strong indicators Nux is da bomb.

I did get covid and didn’t know about the remedy but the second time my husband got covid again I took the nux vomica and never caught it.i took care of my husband in close quarters. He wouldn’t take it but he got better. I can only guess that is why I didn’t catch it…

Hello friend!!! I gave this remedy to two dear friends Christmas Eve when they came down with the ‘Covid and there was nothing available… totally help them especially with severe nausea!!! … I continue to pass on this remedy to anyone who is dealing with nausea that seems to be a very common side effect of the Omicron going around…. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with the world!!!

    • Will Falconer, DVM on January 25, 2022 at 9:48 pm

Nausea? First I’ve heard of it assoc’d with this SARS virus. People in my sphere were either test positive with zero symptoms, or had a mild cold. Few had fever, none reported nausea.

Are you sure those folks reporting nausea had COVID-19? Were they tested?

      • Jeanne Hensley on February 21, 2022 at 6:39 pm

        Dr Falconer,
I must say that I am surprised, with your extensive knowledge and experience with nature, natural treatments and all animals, that you apparently still subscribe to the idea of pathogenic viruses. Have you actually looked deeply into the science on viruses and the explicit lack of proof of the existence of any virus, whether measles, smallpox, rabies, HIV, corona, chickenpox, and the like? Never in history has any virus actually been isolated, purified and been shown to cause any disease in a healthy person or animal. Never. Also, studies have repeatedly shown that the same cell death that “viral” studies show in their mix of cell cultures occurs when there is no “virus” material added. As much help as you are, and make no mistake, your guidance is invaluable, I think much more service could be provided when everyone realizes that there are no pathogenic viruses but rather a whole host of reasons why living beings get “sick”, even with seemingly the same set of symptoms around the same time.

        Best regards,
        Jeanne

        • Will Falconer, DVM on February 21, 2022 at 8:51 pm

I’ve heard this narrative but don’t buy it, Jeanne. Viruses have been isolated and even viewed on electron microscopes. Rabies is a classic example that you simply can’t explain away without some infectious agent. The dog, bitten by a rabid animal, becomes rabid, bites his owner, and the owner becomes rabid and, commonly in the third world, dies of rabies. Were they all, from raccoon to dog to human only choking on their saliva, terrified of water, and ultimately dying of respiratory paralysis simply because they were unhealthy?

Sorry, that doesn’t fly. Check with Zach Bush, MD and see if he believes such a wild theory. I seriously doubt it, and he’s way smarter and had way more conventional medical training than I.

And, have all the virologists simply conspired to leave us all convinced something exists that isn’t real?
          Nah.

My daughter had nausea and vomiting with COVID (yes she was tested). I also had a friend who had those symptoms with it and had to have IV fluids. I had not heard of those symptoms with it either but then heard of more and more people who had similar experiences. This was in early 2021. I think current strain produces more cold like symptoms. I do have the Nux on hand but fortunately haven’t needed it. As a nurse over the age of 65 I have had 3 vaccines and I am a “COVID virgin” so I do think the vaccines have helped me avoid it despite numerous exposures. However I also believe in alternative medicine and wouldn’t hesitate to use it if I got symptoms.

I wish I would have seen this in May when I got covid. I was sick 10 days. I treated myself with only homeopathy and pemf but unfortunately I didn’t try nux vomica. I successfully treated my dad and he recovered in three days my mom was recovering when I become sick 4 days after taking care of the both of them. She was up moving around and doing really well. I became sick and she crashed hard. Was hospitalized twice the first time they wouldn’t help her because she refused the test. The second Hospitalization lead to her being diabetic in the 300s. She has since came home and got her numbers so low that she no longer needs insulin (she was on two doses a day when she left hospital. With good nutrition superior supplements she has really done well. Unfortunately the doctors convinced her she needed gallbladder removal surgery:( and now is suffering from some digestive issues.

Myself I was pretty sick way sicker then I thought I’d get. And had lingering effects for 6 weeks. I have since discovered my immune system lives in my gut and I had serious gut issues ibs wheat intolerance type symptoms. What ive learned is that is a biproduct of unhealthy digestion. So with some digestive enzymes zeolites Chlorella natural vitamim c plant based multi vitamin I have really corrected my digestion and now feel so much healthier. My skin had healed No ibs issues normal daily 💩 my thyroid goiter has disappeared my hair is no longer brittle and falling out! So many wonderful changes because of a healthy life

    • Will Falconer, DVM on December 10, 2021 at 11:30 pm

Wow, Teresa! From caregiver to patient to success story! Quite the journey for you, and yes, the gut is so central. The more science discovers about it, the wider its influence seems to be.

What Idid from early on in 2020 was not act paranoid. I didn’t really curtail normal activities, I wasn’t careless, I didn’t scrub up after I touched anything, I lived as normally as I was allowed to., Ate out regularly. Took extra vitamin C. I think I must have been exposed multiple times but for less time than it would take for actual illness to take hold and by so doing I may have passively immunized myself. I had Omicron symptoms for 3 days in December, never felt sick. And have to believe I’m really immune now because I had a friend over last month who had active COVID (she was vaxxed and boosted) and I wound up with nothing!

Here we are, nearly a year later, and after seeing your video, my 86(now 87) year old husband I, 72, have been taking nux for all this time, once a week. He works as a barber four days a week, except for a 2 1/2 month shutdown. He and clients wear masks, he washes hands before and after each one, and wipes things down. In this year, only 2 of he 400+ clients have died of it, and 4 have gotten it, 2 hospitalized, but all 4 survived. So now comes the vaccine, which I refuse to take, but he has-much to my dismay after all I’ve read to him! He’s succumbed to peer pressure and refusal to believe my cynical beliefs about trusting “the experts!” He will get his second dose next Sunday, and after looking online, I plan to give him Thuja before and after, to avoid the sickness people around us are getting. Is it too late for an answer on this? Is there a better remedy?

  8. Janet A Warner on November 11, 2020 at 11:49 am

    Dear Dr. Falconer,
I have used a few homeopathic remedies over the years and a neighbor told me about Nux Vomica for Covid so I bought some. My sister-in-law lives in a Covid hotspot in Wisconsin and came down with it. She had a headache for a whole day and was mostly exhausted after that, or as far as I know. As soon as I could, I sent her some Nux Vomica and some other helpers such as a mushroom complex for immune, oregano oil, Vit D3, Selenium, and Zinc. She was well past the start of Covid when she got the package, but within a few days felt better. I told her to take 4 Nux Vomica every 4 hours until she felt better (I had read that on a blog) and for her husband to take 3 per day as a preventative (that is what my neighbor takes). So I am so thankful for her getting better as money is tight for them. I will text her and tell her to stop taking 3 a day as a preventative, but perhaps once a week would be OK. Thanks for getting the information out there. I could not watch your video after several attempts it would not load.
    Janet

  9. Leanne on August 16, 2020 at 2:32 am

Hi, Dr. Falconer. Thought I’d share an interesting case of potential Covid and nux-v.

Aug 1. Strangely, my husband complained the coffee tasted
burned that morning. Even a new pot of coffee tasted too bad for him to drink. I thought it was fine.

Later that day he said he felt lightheaded, nauseous and had a headache. He was also quite irritable all day. I quickly gave him nux vomica 30 before he laid down (he never naps!) One hour later, he felt much better, better mood and even made some coffee which tasted fine to him.

I did a search for “coffee tastes burned, homeopathy” and sure enough found one article saying nux vomica was indicated for altered taste to coffee, milk and water. I was so impressed!

Here’s where it gets interesting. The bizarre altered taste and nausea never returned, but he continued almost daily with the headache, irritability, lightheadedness and general unwell feeling. I continued with nux vomica 30 each time he complained, and it always helped within an hour or so. This went on for almost two weeks, so he was getting one dose almost everyday. The first day he complained of the coffee tasting bad and the nausea, Covid crossed my mind (loss of taste and GI symptoms many experience) But since those two things stopped after the first day and his symptoms never became respiratory, I dropped the thought.

August 14, he had routine blood work. He had moderate levels of reactive lymphocytes. Since I never saw that show up on any of his labs in the past 2.5 years of numerous CBCs, I searched to see if there was a correlation with Covid. sure enough, reactive lymphocytes have been observed as a somewhat unique feature in many Covid patients. If present, they tend to peak about two weeks after onset of symptoms, presumably as the person is seroconverting. My husband’s blood work was done two weeks after that first day he complained of the burned coffee and other symptoms.

So all this to say I’m curious/suspicious if he indeed had Covid. And if so, nux vomica 30 was highly effective for him. I wonder if it’s worth getting the serology test just to find out!

    • Will Falconer, DVM on August 17, 2020 at 11:11 pm

This is both interesting and a bit odd, Leanne. Not expected for Covid and nux vomica: one or two doses would have been all that was needed. So, in hindsight, nux v was only “similar” to his illness, not enough of a match that it could cure him as expected.
It makes me wonder if there were other “co-morbidities” that were taking the vital force over after that initial shift. A homeopath would have prescribed a different remedy when it was seen that nux had no lasting effect. Or, possibly a higher potency was needed to resolve his suffering.

      Thanks for sharing this.

    Hi Dr. Falconer,
It is interesting that you used Nox Vomica, because about 2 years ago, my husband and I both contracted the Sars virus and did not know it. We were so sick that I thought that we were both going to go to the hospital. Then I remembered the Boiron pellets…I have used them for the flu. I bought the Nox and another one and we both started taking them. We had been sick for about a week, but my husband started getting better in 3 days and in another couple of days, he was completely over the virus. I always take longer, but recovered in another week. This is not to say that our lungs did not cause us some issue…it was more difficult for me to return to my walking and jogging program. But it worked!
As for the Affenpinscher…well, he sat by waiting for us to get better. He has been your pupil in raw feeding, no vaccines, and homeopathic medicines. He is almost 5 now and I can’t believe how well he is! Thank you for all the consults and newsletters!
    Kristina and Ragnar

    • Will Falconer, DVM on June 13, 2020 at 10:57 pm

Great to hear, Kristina, both about your Nux experiences and how well Ragnar is doing! He sounds like a head-turner, and I suspect starts interesting conversations for you.😀

  11. Alicia Snead on May 10, 2020 at 2:31 pm

Hi Will, great to hear you have recovered well! Just wanted to mention what we have been using to prevent COVID-19 which was advised by my homeopathic physician Thuja 30 and in addition have been taking Monolaurin-Avail. So far everyone is well here but will keep Nux Vomica 30 in mind.

p.s. I’m getting ready to make my first batch of Dr. Ruth Roberts “original crockpot diet” recipe for my fur babies!

    Best, Alicia Snead

  12. Patti on April 17, 2020 at 4:10 pm

Dr. Falconer, would you please recommend a book that would serve as a beginner’s guide to choosing remedies for common complaints? I know you recommend the ‘Flat Earth’ book, but it seems to be more of an explanation/history of homeopathy. What many of us need … in lieu of access to a bonafide homeopathic doctor in these days of lockdown/corona virus … are simple instructions. Yeah, I know, homeopathy is not simple! Nevertheless, I thought I would ask you … just in case. Thank you always for sharing your knowledge and wisdom with all of us! ~~Patti

    • Will Falconer, DVM on April 18, 2020 at 11:16 pm

Sure, Patti, here’s one that comes highly recommended by a colleague of mine: Lockie: “The Family Guide to Homeopathy” And it CAN be simple in acute illness (cold, flu, injury, etc.), so don’t be deterred on that count. It’s the treatment of chronic disease (which most people and pets now suffer from in various forms) that demands a hired professional to marshal to cure. All the best,
      WF

      • Patti on April 19, 2020 at 12:11 am

Thank you so much, Dr. Falconer … I will get that book!

And … I have one more question about the Nux vomica … what do you consider a “dose?” One pellet, two? Or??? … Thanks again … Patti

        • Will Falconer, DVM on April 19, 2020 at 9:28 pm

As we’re talking about non-physical medicine here, a pellet or three is the same dose, Patti. Just take it, that’s the dose. 😉

          • Patti on April 23, 2020 at 1:38 am

FYI … after you recommended Dr. Lockie’s book, I looked to see if he has a website. Yes, on Yahoo he does. NO, on Google he doesn’t. Well, it’s there but unavailable … error message. Google is indeed blocking and closing down alternative medicine sites. ~~Patti

          • Will Falconer, DVM on April 27, 2020 at 11:31 pm

Thanks, Patti. Google is indeed NOT our friend when it comes to seeking the truth. I’d suggest dumping them as a search engine, especially if you value your privacy. Try Startpage.com or DuckDuckGo instead, both intent on bringing out accurate search results and not tracking you.

        • Deb on August 21, 2022 at 11:25 am

FYI Google just took me right to Dr. Lockie’s web site when I did a search. I think it will be quite helpful.

  13. Thomas Ball on April 13, 2020 at 1:32 pm

    Dear Dr. Falconer,

One of the rubrics used by Dr. Pitcairn to find the Genus Epidemicus was “increased sense of smell”, and that is (in part) how he arrived at Nux v. However, Covid-19 patients experience just the opposite, loss of sense of smell.
    Please advise.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on April 14, 2020 at 12:55 am

Remedies like nux v, sulphur, and many many others often have quite the list of possible symptoms that could lead one to them. It helped Richard to find nux v when he saw this odd symptom, characteristic of nux v (and maybe only a few others). It doesn’t mean it’s not useful to those lacking that symptom or even having an opposite symptom. For example, nux v is typically chilly. I am not, nor was I when I started coming down with COVID-19 symptoms. Yet, it “fit” my illness pattern in other ways and I’m well today after just a couple doses when I was ill.

      • Thomas Ball on April 14, 2020 at 2:26 am

Thank you! Now I know I can still use the remedy, should it come to that.
Glad you’ve successfully beaten the disease! Homeopathy has so much to offer, I wish more people used it.

  14. Janet on April 12, 2020 at 7:06 pm

Hello Dr. Falconer, it’s Janet (aka Kunzang) formerly of Austin, Texas–

My 80 year old husband has had cancer (5 years ago) and is rather frail From reading all the posts, I gather it’s a good idea to put him on Nux Vomica 30 c (or m) , 1x weekly— is that correct?

My Question: If he gets coronavirus, should I kick up the nux vomica to 200 c (or m) ? And how often do I administer?

    BTW:
Thanks so much for all you do & did.

About 20 years ago (when we still lived in Austin area) you saved my German Shepherd “China” diagnosed as having inoperable stomach cancer . My white-coat vet at the time predicted that she was sure to die in 6 weeks; I left that vet & discovered you.
China lived nearly 6 l/2 YEARS after you had me treat her with homeopathy & immediately put her on a raw food diet–which I had to make myself back in those days) AND later you saved our old cat “Asi” dx with feline leukemia–sorry can’t remember what remedies you had us give her, but she lived another 5 years & never took anymore allopathic anything. She was 13 when she died.

    Deep bow of gratitude.

    • Janet on April 12, 2020 at 7:15 pm

PS: oops, it’s Janet again, I meant to say 30 C now, 1x week for my auto-immunity challenged husband and 200 C if he actually comes down with THE virus…. is that a correct strategy?

      • Will Falconer, DVM on April 14, 2020 at 12:51 am

        Hi Janet,

It’s way beyond my scope here to prescribe for your hubby. Take what you’ve learned and either decide or hire a homeopath to help you to decide. And thanks for the trip down memory lane. Always gratifying to hear my patients who “beat the diagnosis” by several years.

All the best to and all in your care.

  15. Lorn on April 7, 2020 at 9:31 am

I could only find nux vomica 6X. How does that compare with 30 C? What would a proper dosage be if symptomatic?

  16. Debra Bottalico on April 6, 2020 at 3:17 pm

Thanks for the info. I have nux vomica 200 on hand, will that suffice?

    • Karen on April 7, 2020 at 12:44 am

      Debra,

I just took Nux 200C because that’s all I got. It helps a lot. I was blowing sideways on the 1st of April. LOL

      I am continuing with 200C.

  17. Dar on April 6, 2020 at 7:22 am

    Dr. Will,
You video is wonderful as well as is Michael Jr.’s . Thank you so much also for this discussion. I’m sure as a result, you will have saved lives and at the very least much suffering.

  18. Karen Anderson on April 6, 2020 at 1:37 am

    Thank you, Dr. Falconer.

On March 31, I had a headache and felt chill, but had night sweat. On April 1, diarrhea 6x in 6 hours and just completely drained. I took a dose of Nux because I knew that it matches the symptoms.

April 2, I was all bubbly and well and ready to go run do LOL. On April 4, I went on a 8-mile walk with family and dogs. Then last night, stomach trouble again, this time, a low-grade fever and pain but diarrhea. After watching your video, I took a dose of Nux 200C (that’s all I have).

I will watch for additional symptoms and report later.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on April 6, 2020 at 2:33 am

Excellent, Karen! Thanks for your report. Keep us posted please on how it goes forward. You said “a low-grade fever and pain but diarrhea.” Not sure where “but” fits. Maybe “but no diarrhea?”

      • Karen on April 6, 2020 at 4:28 am

        Sorry, typo, but “no diarrhea.”

After taking Nux 200C a couple of hours ago, the pain in the stomach gone and energy return. Bloating and nausea feeling also gone. This stuff works very fast. I will continue to watch and report.

      • Karen Anderson on April 8, 2020 at 4:31 am

Back to normal today after three doses of Nux Vomica 200C. No more pain or nausea or bloating. No more diarrhea or constipation.

I am back to feeling like myself again.

        Thanks for the info.

  19. Michael Fishel on April 5, 2020 at 11:59 pm

Hi Dr. Will – i haven’t spoken to you since moving from Houston in the 90’s but you did a great job treating our dog, Shara. I have both 30C and 200C (actually 1M as well). Nux has been my constitutional remedy for quite a long time, first thru Dr. Karl Robinson and then thru Dr. Dennis Kay. Question is would it be beneficial to take a dose of 30C as a preventative or just wait to see if I get symptoms. I’m recovering from a TBI after a fall last year so at 66 I’m perhaps a bit higher risk than I should be. Thx

    • Will Falconer, DVM on April 6, 2020 at 12:11 am

If it’s constitutional for you, Michael, I’d sit tight and see if you start exhibiting untuning in a nux v sort of way, then take a potency consistent with what your prescribers have used. Best to check with them, ideally, but I don’t think there’s a rush if you’re basically in good health (though I don’t know what TBI means…).

      • Michael Fishel on April 6, 2020 at 12:31 am

TBI – traumatic brain injury. I ran down our steps in the dark and evidently stepped out into space thinking I was down slamming my shoulder into the tile floor and my head into a stone wall. I lost 8 days of memory. Unfortunately Dr. Kay passed away in 2018 so I currently have no homeopath here in Boulder CO. His last dose of Nux for me was 200C.

        • Will Falconer, DVM on April 6, 2020 at 1:32 am

200C should be fine if you get symptoms, Michael. One dose, watch and wait for at least 72 hrs. Boulder? Wow. Maybe a visit someday… likely agrees with you much more than Houston did.

          • Michael Fishel on April 6, 2020 at 10:30 am

            Dr Will ,
Thanks for the notes and advice. Boulder fits far better than Houston!! You’re always welcome here in Boulder. 🙂

  20. Suzanne Ward on April 5, 2020 at 9:45 pm

Hi Dr. Will..so good to see you on YouTube or anywhere Thanks for sharing this information. Jack and I have self quarantined after what seemed like a bout of the Covid-19 All symptoms were mild, except the extreme tiredness. We are both energizer bunnies and after two weeks, haven’t returned to normal energy. Thanks for sharing this info…now for this funny video.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on April 5, 2020 at 10:42 pm

Hey Suzanne, in an earlier reply, I posted a link to the materia medica description of nux vomica. Worth a look, as it may still fit you and Jack. I can see I’m likely to need it more chronically, as my overwork over the past few years has pushed me into a nux state. All the best and rapid recovery for you both.

  21. Brenda Grady on April 5, 2020 at 7:24 pm

Enjoyed your video. So glad you are well.
The Michael, Jr. comedy video was just what I “needed” today……it helped me figure out a “punch line” for a friend.
She feeds her neighborhood’s feral cats; so, I purchased and covertly delivered an order to her house today. Hours later, I received a text message from her saying “One of my neighbors’ cat must have died, because I found a large amount of canned cat food at my front door.” I’ll never tell her it was me.

  22. Theresa Grimes on April 5, 2020 at 5:51 pm

What a surprise to find you back this week! I was supporting your decision from last week to start cutting back a bit. However, I’m happy that you decided to share more knowledge with us & pass along a much needed source of comedic relief. I will watch Michael Jr’s video this evening. Thank you!

  23. Kathryn Kawazoe on April 5, 2020 at 4:50 pm

Thanks for the video link, Dr. Falconer! I’d never heard of this comedian before, but I, too, will now pass on the link …he is great!! And it’s great he’s got at least one more show on youtube to watch. Everyone watch the show, and maybe, just maybe, you won’t need to take any remedy because you’ll be less likely to come down with/feel any symptoms of any virus! (:

From laughter to … Nux Vomica – I’ve used it on my dogs and given it to other people who I think it helps constitutionally as well as for the typical “hang over” symptoms. I feel lucky to say I’ve never had to use it in any circumstance where there was a big enough gap between health and dis-ease that I consciously noticed the difference. After reading other posts on homeopathic use with COVID-19, I’m wondering if maybe there are a few strains of the virus out there that the different identified remedies are best for.? For example, when people have the intestinal effects, maybe Nux Vom is better? Do those symptoms come from a different strain?? I realize there’s no real study done on this particular virus yet (altho they should be able to easily recognize different dna/strains, and I know they say there are 2 strains, last I read) but was wondering if there’s a universally recognized platform/site where people can post their experiences using homeopathy with COVID-19 (or any other issue) so that more info can be analyzed in one place.? If so, please forward.

Thanks to everyone here for interest in and support of natural medicine, and thank you, Dr. Falconer, for being a leader in creating space to connect us all to important information (and to each other!).

    • Will Falconer, DVM on April 5, 2020 at 7:50 pm

Hey Kathryn, it’s less about “strains” of a virus than how people respond to an infectious challenge, and if you look up nux vomica in a materia medica and read what symptoms correlate with it, you’ll see nux is a widely applicable remedy for this pandemic, in several different symptom clusters that appear. Dr. Pitcairn is sort of cataloging cases on his Facebook page, but good luck sorting them out, mainly because that platform continually buries older posts.
      Here’s a read on nux vomica that’s online: http://www.homeoint.org/books/boericmm/n/nux-v.htm

    Hi Dr Will,
I’ve been avoiding doctors since finding a fantastic Heilkunst Homeopath here in Tauranga New Zealand over 8 years ago and haven’t looked back. She’s got me off asthma ventilators I’ve been on since 3 years old that the allopathic doctors said I’d be on for the rest of my life.
Suggested reading I’ve come across recently is ‘Virus Mania’ by Torsten Engelbrecht and Claus Kohnlein – it’s a free book you can download as pdf from http://www.biohealthworksinstitute dot com (click on ‘Covid 19 Resources’ ) Even if you only have time to read the intro and forward it’s a real eye-opener. Page 43 explains what’s actually required to prove a virus exists and page 58 explains clustering and how to create an epidemic out of one patient.
    Cheers, Cynthia.

Nux v is definitely in the kit, Leslie, if it’s the 50 remedy kit. I have it myself.

  28. Teresa Strube on April 5, 2020 at 2:13 pm

Gelsemium is a frequent flu remedy. It was used widespread by homeopaths during the Spanish Flu epidemic and, according to physician notes, was so effective that many homeopathic MDs reported losing NO patients. That is in comparison to most allopathic MDs who lost MANY patients, and some, all of their patients! Of course, that was during a time when treatment protocols were shockingly ineffective.

  29. Jean on April 5, 2020 at 2:09 pm

In the video you suggest taking the pellets under the tongue. In his last Organon the author suggests dissolving the pellets in water. Then taking a teaspoon waiting 2 hours before taking more. Do you think this is as effective. It does allow the remedies to last longer. Thank you.

    • chris on April 5, 2020 at 4:04 pm

My family has used a homeopath for years for us and our dogs. She had us dissolve one pellet in a 4 oz amber bottle. Then add 4 oz of spring water (or a little less so it does not spill). Then we would tap the bottle 10 times against our hand and take one teaspoon. She would have us repeat the dose if the symptoms returned and were the same (or she would look for another remedy if different symptoms did not match the remedy we were doing). We have been using her since 2005 and have gotten through a lot of things (chronic issues like dogs being scared of thunderstorms and fireworks) (and acute issues like the cold or flu). There is a great book online for free for you to learn from called Beyond Flat Earth medicine at this link:
      http://www.drdooley.net/Book.pdf
I refer back to it lots.

Thanks, chris, this has long been on my list of the very best books to explain homeopathy! I’ve linked to a free version on my Recommended Resources page for years. Very inspiring to read, full of excellent examples in humans, and always great to see an MD who left conventional medicine to pursue homeopathic practice.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on April 5, 2020 at 7:54 pm

That works, too, Jean. But repeating should not be necessary when the genus epidemicus is taken for the actual illness. Take a dose if you’re sick with similar symptoms and watch your response over 48-72 hours.

  30. Robbi on April 5, 2020 at 1:38 pm

I have Nux vomica 30X on hand. Do you think it will work or should I look for 30C?

    • chris on April 5, 2020 at 3:55 pm

I have an emergency kit of over 100 remedies. It was suggested to me by a homeopath to use 30c so they are all 30c (and there are kits for sale on the internet by reputable homeopathic companies). 30c is fine

    Many thanks

    • Tara on April 5, 2020 at 4:43 pm

According to Dr. Pitcairn, either 30C or 200C will work.

  32. Sarah W on April 5, 2020 at 12:35 pm

Dr. Falconer, thank you for sharing the vital information with us. Nux Vomica worked beautifully on my son when he was sick last month. I’m not sure if it was Covid-19 but he had all the symptoms.
I am going to give my elderly parents a once weekly dose for a month or so and keep my fingers crossed. My father has multiple health/breathing problems so I feel confident that homeopathy will give him a fighting chance in all of this. Again, thank you.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on April 5, 2020 at 7:52 pm

Great, Sarah, I’d love it if you could post your son’s symptoms here for others to learn from.

      • Sarah W on April 6, 2020 at 5:05 am

Sure, he first started with a dry sore throat and tightness in the chest. The next morning, he had great fatigue, low grade fever and a headache. He also complained of slight nausea (which I attributed to the drainage going down his throat). I tried a few of the more common cold/flu remedies with him such as aconite and byronia. I stayed with that for a couple days but he was not improving. I kept a journal like you mentioned all throughout his illness and each time I tried a remedy, I waited and made notes to see if there was improvement or at least, a shift. Long story short, his cough became quite awful. Antimonium Tart did not help much either.; it was a dry, relentless type of cough with much tightness. He had trouble catching his breath during coughing fits.
In desperation, I read did some more research and looked up Nux Vomica. I used a 200c potency and within twenty minutes, his cough quieted down. I stayed with Nux for about two or three days and he finally started to improve. I believe if I had started with Nux his sickness probably would not have progressed.

        • Will Falconer, DVM on April 8, 2020 at 12:57 am

Thanks, Sarah, and great work! Agreed, hindsight is always so clear, isn’t it: if you’d started with nux v, it would have been much faster and easier. You did great, though, kudos to you!

Can dogs get the corona virus. Dr. Karen Becker said dogs can get it. I have a 16 year old chihuahua. Everything I would give her she would throw it up. I started giving her baby jar food and she is keeping it down. Anything else I can do? I have to force feed her she won’t eat it on her own. She has one bad hip and teeth that are bad and loose. No coughing. She can’t hear.

NEW YORK (AP) — A tiger at the Bronx Zoo has tested positive for the new coronavirus, in what is believed to be the first known infection in an animal in the U.S. or a tiger anywhere, federal officials and the zoo said Sunday.

The 4-year-old Malayan tiger, and six other tigers and lions that have also fallen ill, are believed to have been infected by a zoo employee, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said. The first animal started showing symptoms March 27, and all are expected to recover, said the zoo, which has been closed to the public since March 16.

“We tested the cat out of an abundance of caution” and aim to “contribute to the world’s continuing understanding of this novel coronavirus,” said Dr. Paul Calle, the zoo’s chief veterinarian.

The finding raises new questions about transmission of the virus in animals. The USDA says there are no known cases of the virus in U.S. pets or livestock.

“It’s important to assure pet owners and animal owners that at this time there isn’t any evidence that they can spread the virus,” said Dr. Jane Rooney, a veterinarian and a USDA official.

The coronavirus outbreaks around the world are driven by person-to-person transmission, experts say.

There have been reports of a small number of pets outside the United States becoming infected after close contact with contagious people, including a Hong Kong dog that tested positive for a low level of the pathogen in February and early March. Hong Kong agriculture authorities concluded that pet dogs and cats couldn’t pass the virus to human beings but could test positive if exposed by their owners.

Some researchers have been trying to understand the susceptibility of different animal species to the virus, and to determine how it spreads among animals, according to the Paris-based World Organization for Animal Health.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as a fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and can be fatal.

I originally read Paul Herscu’s blog which mentioned at least five remedies: Sulphur, Lycopodium, Phosphorus, Bryonia and Arsenicum. I had some symptoms ten days ago of tight chest & dry cough, so I took Bryonia 200C. Symptoms went away. Next day I had chills and nausea but no restlessness or anxiety, no thirst, and since I wasn’t sure any of those listed remedies were right, I took my constitutional remedy, Pulsatilla 200C. Symptoms cleared and I have felt well ever since. Now that I know about Nux Vomica, I will keep it handy. I am not planning to take it prophylactically since I believe I’ve already been exposed. But I never had a fever or a sore throat, so I’m not certain.

From studying homeopathy and Hahnemann, you are not supposed to take homeopathy as a preventative. It does not work that way. It works when you have the symptoms and then you look for the remedy that fits the best. Herbs and supplements are taken as a preventative not homeopathy. So those of you who are taking nux vomica once a week or just because and have no symptoms are not following homeopathy right.

    • Leah on April 5, 2020 at 10:41 am

What about people who are carriers without any symptoms? Would a once a week dose address that?

      • chris on April 5, 2020 at 3:53 pm

If you are not showing symptoms, you should not dose yourself. You could be a carrier and immune to it (my husband works in a hospital and is immune to a lot of stuff because he is constantly exposed to it). He gets sick about once every 4 years.

    • Joy on April 5, 2020 at 1:21 pm

Hahnemann was the first to give remedies prophylactically, I believe during the scarlet fever epidemic in Europe in the late 1700’s, using Belladonna.

I don’t have any symptoms but am going to take Nux Vomica once a week. How many weeks should I continue?

I am a firm believer in homeopathy now after watching my dog recover (she is still on her way) from bi-lateral cruciate ligament tears. It’s a beautiful sight to witness, and as Dr. Falconer mentions at the beginning of this video, dogs are immune to the placebo effect. I think humans are in reverse placebo these days though. Nice to see some sanity. Thanks Dr. Falconer. I hope many contribute to the study. Knowledge is power.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on April 5, 2020 at 11:21 am

Not sure I’d take it if I were you, Leah. Pitcairn is way older than I and isn’t taking it preventatively. He’s choosing to see if he gets any symptoms, then will take one dose.

Remember: young, healthy folks should barely get sick at all from this virus. Prevention is more needed if you’re old and especially if you’re chronically ill (diabetes, obesity, heart disease, autoimmune, etc.) — those people could think about a weekly dose till this dies down.

My husband went down for the count 3 weeks ago. Headache, low level fever (99.8,) nausea, aches, weak. I gave him nox vomica because of his nausea and weakness. He was well into it before my light went off. I would say that it was the beginning of the end of his really bad symptoms. Because I wasn’t quite sure I was doing the right thing. I only treated him for a day. (1 x 30cc ). His over all recovery has been frustratingly slow and finally he is moving and eating normally. It’s been kind of one step forward 2 steps back.

    • Will Falconer, DVM on April 5, 2020 at 9:05 am

Yes, the key was, “he was well into it,” Jennifer. The best use of the genus epidemicus is early in the disease, ideally at first symptoms. It still sounds like the remedy was correct (by his symptoms), so in hindsight, a few more doses would probably have helped. Or a higher potency, perhaps. Glad he’s gotten better, even if slowly.

      • Ann-Marie Bagley on April 5, 2020 at 12:11 pm

Dr. Will: Thanks for all you do. What is the difference between 30C and 1M? Last summer we had horrible EEE cases in my state, and right after I was bitten by a mosquito, I started taking Ledum palustre 1m. I went to my local health food store and they gave me that. So I didn’t really have a clear understanding of the differences.

        • Joy on April 5, 2020 at 1:19 pm

The differences is the potency–the number of dilutions and succussions. 30C is much less potent than 1M. I would be very surprised if you got 1M from a local health food store. 30C is the usual, and occasionally I’ve seen 200C. Lower potencies can be given more frequently than 1M. I have *never* seen 1M sold to the public at a natural food or natural health store and I question that’s what you actually got. I’ve used 1M treating my animals (goats and horses), but rarely, and have always had to order them online. In addition, I am trained in homeopathy.

I hope Dr.Will responds to this, as I’d like to see his answer.

          • Will Falconer, DVM on April 6, 2020 at 12:18 am

Joy is correct. 30C is plenty potent enough for our purposes. In fact, it’s all I have at present, until India’s lockdown goes away and I can again order higher potencies. It clearly worked for me and others have reported success as well.

          • Ann-Marie Bagley on April 6, 2020 at 10:57 am

            Hi Joy:
Thanks for responding. I did get 1M. I still have the bottle with some left, and the tag is on it from the health food store that I usually go to. It cost $9.59. Price and tag still on. I asked for 30C, but they told me that’s all they had. I took it, and I never got EEE. They also recommended Echinacea and Rapid Immune Boost. I had no idea what the difference was, but thanks for explaining it to me.

          • Ann-Marie Bagley on April 6, 2020 at 11:02 am

            Thank you, Dr. Will:
I appreciate the response. I had no idea about the strength. It’s all they had, and I was so scared since I was bitten by a mosquito and there were EEE cases all around my community…I live on the coast. I fared well, and I appreciate now knowing the difference. So when I go in search of the Nux Vomica, I can be assured that the 30C will be the correct one.

  44. Greg Moore on April 5, 2020 at 8:38 am

    Hi Dr Will,
Glad you are feeling better! Thank you for sharing your experience & knowledge and especially for doing this video. I shared your COVID-19 email/newsletter & received some questions (I’ve used homeopathy for my dogs as well as myself for many yrs w great results but lack training to answer questions – you nailed it). One of my main take-aways from this video is the preventative benefits of Nux Vomica 30c taken weekly, which my sister & I will begin right away. FYI, we purchased it immediately upon receipt of your newsletter but were unclear on the preventative piece.

One question I have is for someone like yourself who has had (assumed since not everyone is able to be or being tested) or confirmed positive COVID-19 test results – Do they need to take Nux Vomica again ie. weekly to prevent getting it again or relapsing?
I love your informative newsletters! Thank you for all your supportive, knowledgeable, & caring information! I’ll be sharing your video today,
    Greg

    • Will Falconer, DVM on April 5, 2020 at 8:48 am

Great question, Greg, and the answer is clear from Hahnemann’s work via Pitcairn: often only a single dose is all that’s needed to overcome the epidemic disease. Amazing, right? There’s history behind this spanning back to the 1800’s in serious epidemics.

I also fully expect the average person will have a very mild brush with the disease and may not even know they were sick, but will none the less build immunity and not be susceptible to reinfection.

      • Greg Moore on April 5, 2020 at 9:36 am

Thank you, Dr Will & I agree completely!
FYI, my 12 yr old golden rescue who has t-cell cutaneous & small cell lymphoma diagnosed 4 yrs ago this month still has a good quality of life. Treatments include homeopathy, TCM, acupuncture, chiropractic, laser – we’ve also tried IV Vitamin C & Ozone therapy. No chemo, surgery, radiation, etc. I began following you after Dr Natalie Blackman, Jake’s holistic vet, forwarded one of your newsletter. Many thanks!

        • Ann-Marie Bagley on April 5, 2020 at 12:00 pm

Greg: How awesome! I lost my rescue golden at 12 to epitheliotropic T-cell lymphoma back in 2014. I wish I had known about all this stuff way back when. He had surgery to remove his tonsils, and I believe that was a bad decision. I think I hastened his demise with that, as I believe that is what made it spread. He lived quite a while with it, but eventually had cluster seizures, and we had to put him down. 🙁 So glad you have been able to find holistic ways to save Jake’s life!

  45. Eve Tara-Vahde on April 5, 2020 at 8:37 am

    Hello dr.Falconer!
You mayby remember me (Eve Tara-Vahde from Finland on her way to holistic vet!). I have been studying classic homeopathy for 3 years now and followed Jeremy Sherrs webinars from Corona. He´s been collecting globaly the verified corona symptoms (hundreds now) from homeopaths all over the world trying to figure out Genus Epidemicus. The best remedies so far:
Aconite 30C , first symptoms, then comes Bryonia, Ars. Phos Merc (all) this is for the stage 1.
    Stage 2: Ant-t (best so far), Phos, Ph-ac, Ant-ars
Stage 3: Ant-t (Radon—> hard to get, only in Italy)
….. and there are over 20 others and these are tried and tested.
There is a website : The Quest for Simillimum (home) were all the webinars are, for free:=) Very intresting.
So happy to see you well<3

    Eve

    • Will Falconer, DVM on April 5, 2020 at 8:45 am

Hi Eve, I think these folks are missing the genus epidemicus. Pitcairn points out that there’s rarely need for more than one remedy unless the disease has progressed or has been changed by giving *other remedies* that are not the actual genus epidemicus. Quite clear, what Hahnemann wrote about all this, but few are as attuned to his work as Richard is.

This was originally written on 3/4 but has since had 7 postscripts added as the virus has spread worldwide. There may be remedies other than Nux-V that are called for, all of course depending upon the symptoms of the patient.

Anyway, I wanted to share this information too, and hope it is helpful. I’m not a homeopath, but a long time student under Dr Glen Dupree (DVM) who sadly passed several years ago.

Omigosh, how I miss Dr. Dupree! He was my goat vet and was phenomenal.

WRT Nux, I’m on a homeopathy email group and Arsenicum is the remedy most used *in some places in the world”. The virus is mutating rapidly (as they all do) and the consensus seems to be that there are 2 or 3 Genius (or Genus) Epedemicus remedies. It all depends on the presentation of symptoms, but it’s not unusual for there to be more than one remedy.

Hi Dr. Will. I’m so glad you’ve recovered as well as you have. My question is about antibodies and the COVID-19 virus.
Assuming we do become immune (at least to this season’s version of the virus) through natural infection and/or exposure, does using nux vomica as a PREVENTATIVE interfere with that process?
Thank you for your time, concern and caring for all beings.

No interference, but Dr. Pitcairn says preventative doses are unnecessary. He’s choosing to wait until he first shows symptoms before he ever takes a dose. I think there’s merit to that approach as well.

Thank you. Will wait and hopefully never need this product. But I’m ready.
Thank you again and stay healthy.

OK, we will wait for first symptoms if they appear.

Hi Dr Falconer. So far so good here (all things considered- there are a LOT of cases in CT) I’ve had an on-off sore throat that is actually normal for me in the winter (postnasal drip, allergies) but no cough or shortness of breath or fever (no thermometer but I know when I’ve had fevers) But I searched down my homeopathy medicine kit and I DO have Nux Vomica 30c. Except that there’s an expiration date of 2018. I know I’ve been told in the past that the remedies don’t expire in the way conventional meds do – would you agree that it would still be effective? I can buy a new vial this week.

        Hi Dr. Will;
Firstly, very happy to hear you have recovered so quickly from this potentially devastating illness. Also, thank-you for this very helpful video. I have a friend who is Covid positive and I am recommending this remedy to him, in hopes he agrees to give it a try, although he is not part of the homeopathic school of thought. I do have a question though; in the earlier stages of this pandemic, in an issue of Vital Animal you stated you felt Gelsemium would be the remedy for this illness. Now that you have had the very successful result from Nux Vomica, what is your take on Gelsemium? What led you to initially believe that it would be the remedy to turn to and what would you now recommend its use for? Perhaps the seasonal flu?

Thanks for all you do to educate and guide us and I am so happy to hear you are well and wish the very best in all ways.

        Kind regards,

        Arthur (Toronto)

        • Will Falconer, DVM on April 9, 2020 at 9:53 pm

Hey Arthur, gelsemium was only an early thought, as it has been a very useful genus epidemicus in past flu epidemics. As more cases emerged and Dr. Pitcairn dove deeper with actual symptoms, he realized nux vomica was the better remedy. The important thing is: this was then borne out by many people who reported symptoms of COVID-19, took nux vomica, and got better, so it was verified. Remember, homeopathy is all about tracking the HOW of the illness: how do people suffer it? When we amass lots of symptoms common to many sufferers, we get a clearer understanding of the genus epidemicus remedy. This is not a “gelsemium illness,” based on how people are reporting their symptoms. To better understand this, I’d urge you to visit my Recommended Resources page, where I’ve got a free ebook to download called HOMEOPATHY: Beyond Flat Earth Medicine. Brilliant explanatory book, filled with human case examples of this wondrous medical system. Written by an MD, ND, who, like me, found homeopathy, fell in love with it, and left conventional medicine to practice it and share it with the world.
